There Our Hearts Will Be: The Good Life.

Once a month or so, I receive an email from poet Rich Orloff. His work is creative, spiritually grounded, and on occasion, meets me in the quiet space where God’s Spirit seems to have already led. His poem, “Broken Threads,” which arrived last Tuesday, met me in just such a place. As I reflect on his poem and its rich imagery, I at once hear echoes of Dolly Parton’s song of resiliency and divine love, “Coat of Many Colors;” a song steeped in spiritual wisdom where the “Good Life” is measured by love, grace, and human connection rather than material things. This Sunday at 10:00 AM, we will explore similar wisdom shared lovingly by an elder through the ancient poetry of Proverbs 3:1–12. What wisdom, I wonder, might you or I have, and discover together as we release the need to appear perfect, gather up our broken threads, and place them securely into the hands and heart of the living God? May the wisdom of your life, Rich’s poem, Dolly’s song, and Proverbs 3 meet you wherever you are this week and bring you the blessed assurance of God’s love, Christ’s peace, and the Spirit’s healing and hope.
