Advent Week 2: What Child is This?

This Sunday we light the candle of Peace. But not the fragile peace that avoids conflict or the false peace that comes from fear. We’ll explore the deeper peace we long for — the peace that breaks through silence, shame, and fear, and restores intimacy with God and one another. Maya Angelou’s vision of Christmas Peace is a prophetic reminder of the hope we seek for ourselves and the world. The question beyond “What child IS this?” is how do we get there? What path leads us from false peace to holy listening, from silence enforced by fear to the kind of silence that makes space for God’s voice? We’ll look at Zechariah’s story — his surprise, doubt, silence, and song. And we’ll consider practical steps for our own lives: breaking silence, turning toward wounds, and embracing new rhythms of reconciliation. Readings include Malachi 3:1 and selected verses from Luke 1:5-79. Come ready to listen, to wonder, and to be surprised by the peace that breaks things.

In Hope and Peace,
Rev Kev
