Nurturing Hope Through Gratitude

This Sunday is Mother’s Day, and our scriptures offer us a vision of God that feels especially needed right now: a God who hears, gathers, shelters, and liberates.

In Exodus, we meet a God who listens to the cries of the oppressed and responds in ways that lead us out of dead ends. In Luke, Jesus stands in the shadow of Herod’s violence and compares himself to a mother hen—gathering the scattered, protecting the vulnerable, empowering the powerless, and outfoxing the foxes.

As we celebrate all who care, nurture, and mother others, we’ll explore these countercultural images that lie at the very heart of God.

Whether you’re feeling scattered, stretched thin, or just trying to keep your flame from going out, come as you are. Bring your whole story. There’s a wing stretched wide for you here.
